Marietta Mitsidou was born in Nicosia. At
early age, she started taking music lessons and following a speech
For the first time, she took part in the 1993 Cypriot selection for
Eurovision. Her song Nichta (Night) came 2nd. In 1994 for her
second attempt, she qualified for the Cypriot selection for Eurovision
and finished 2nd for the second time in a row.
In 1996, she released Ichis oniron (The sound of my dreams),
her first album. In 1998, Michalis Hadjiyiannis (Cyprus ESC 1998) and
Marietta recorded the album Anonimon patridon (Anonymous
In 2001, she released the single Se thimame (I remember you),
the song representing Cyprus in this year's OGAE Song Contest.
Thalassa psichi (Sea soul), her new album, was commercialised
in 2002 and enjoyed big success in Cyprus.
Marietta's powerful voice, difference and talent have now found a place
on the Cypriot music culture and scene. She has become one of the best
Cypriot singers in classic/pop style music.
